Country Club of Asheville

Welcome to the Good Life, in 1894 a group of Asheville citizens came together to create a facility for exceptional recreation and enjoyment. One year later, golf was added to the menu of activities, serving as the centerpiece of what would ultimately become The Country Club of Asheville. J.J. McCloskey originally designed and laid out the course in 1905. Eight years later, in 1913, club members retained Donald J. Ross, one of the world’s foremost golf architect of his time, to redesign the course, matching his superior specifications with the vision of the founding members.

In 1976, the country club initiated “The Big Swap,” selling its golf course, clubhouse and pro shop to the Grove Park Inn in exchange for the hotel’s property overlooking high western mountains and the adjacent Donald Ross-designed Beaver Lake Golf Course. Creating a Sense of Community Membership means more than just access to amenities. It means embracing a community of people, all in the pursuit of the best things in life for themselves and their families. Whether it is enjoying a snack by the pool, making a birdie on the back nine, getting advice on your backhand or simply enjoying a glass of fine wine on the Terrace, The Country Club of Asheville strives to fulfill your ideas of the good life, whatever they may be. The clubhouse represents the heart of our community.

The Country Club of Asheville’s newly-renovated 37,000 square foot clubhouse is perched high over the fairways, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains to the south, north and west. Built to provide both intimate dinners and the events that shape a lifetime, the clubhouse offers formal and casual dining options, superior cuisine, elegant event spaces and a spacious, light-filled bar, perfect for an after game drink or a light afternoon lunch with friends. Embodying a sense of grand hospitality—and a warm, courteous staff—the clubhouse boasts amenities such as conference rooms, wireless internet, card rooms for men and women, dressing rooms and a full Nautilus fitness facility. The clubhouse is a place where members feel at home. Where neighbors quickly become friends, friends become like family, and the everyday moment becomes a special occasion. The 6,673 yards of the rolling green Country Club of Asheville course wind around the Clubhouse and represent a one-hundred year legacy of exceptional golfing tradition and astonishing natural beauty. Designed by Donald Ross, our 18-hole, nationally recognized championship course, is a local landmark. Featuring bent grass greens and lush grass fairways, the course has a rating of 72 and a slope of 133 from the first tee. The USGA recognizes the course as one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S. It was featured in the 1995 Golf Magazine list of “The First 100 Clubs in America.” Additionally, members enjoy state-of-the-art putting and chipping greens, a 25 tee driving range, a full-service pro shop, plus a host of clinics and lessons for amateurs or experienced players of all ages. Hole 4 Considered the front stretch, this par 4 hole is lined by age-old willows and striking mountain views.

A Legacy of Golf Hole 3 This par 4 hole tees off under a stately oak and crosses a quaint stone bridge. In this setting you’ll be tempted to stop, sit and just enjoy the natural beauty of the course and its surroundings. Enhancing the Good Life Whether it’s the echoing volley of tennis balls, the laughter of children in the swimming pool, or the rustle of a Bridge hand being dealt in the card room, The Country Club of Asheville provides members of all ages with exceptional opportunities for world-class recreation. The eight lighted Har Tru soft tennis courts, two hard courts, and “treehouse” pro shop of our outdoor tennis facilities are located in a verdant grove of high pines. A meandering sidewalk leads to the brand new indoor tennis facility with two Decoturf courts enables you to master your serve even during inclement weather. The fully-staffed tennis pro shop offers programs for players of all skill levels including: clinics, lessons, league play and social events throughout the season. Our popular summer tennis camp provides your children the chance to learn the fundamentals while making friends for life.

The Country Club of Asheville’s Olympic-sized pool sits on a sunny spot overlooking the scenic Beaver Dam area. Summer often finds the young, and young at heart, enjoying a cooling dip in the pool during warm afternoons. The pool area features a separate baby pool, full-service cabana, men’s and women’s bath house, plus a wide variety of water programs and activities. The Fitness Room is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, including Lifecycles®, Cybex® bikes, treadmills, dumbbells and free weights. A certified personal trainer is available for sport-specific training for children and adults, and strength and flexibility training.
