History:

The present day Southcliff was once known as Hope Dairy, a small dairy farm owned and operated by the Earwood family throughout the 1940s and 50s. In 1963, the land was sold to Harry Bloomberg, a local businessman who preserved the property in its natural state. Forty years later, Bloomberg’s daughters sold the property in 2005, whereupon its current owners' vision of a private, gated-community, inspired by nature, began to take shape.

You can almost hear the wind kissing the leaves of the tall oaks, blushing red. The aroma of rhododendron fills the cool, early morning air. The rustle of leaves under your feet, mountain water splashing against rocks and breathtaking mountain views all tell you that you’ve found someplace special.

Lifestyle & Activities:

Southcliff is located minutes from downtown Asheville, an electric city with rich heritage and tradition for all to discover. Watch as local artists create pottery and handcrafted jewelry. Visit one-of-a-kind galleries and shops. Let your appetite guide you along an international culinary tour. Tour the Biltmore Estate, the nation’s oldest private residence, at nearby historic Biltmore Village.

Outdoor enthusiasts can take full advantage of one of the Southeast’s top 10 adventure towns. Just beyond the city limits, explore the Blue Ridge Parkway, “America’s Favorite Drive," and enjoy unparalleled mountain views. When the sun goes down, the city comes alive with melodic sounds of local blue grass, rock, country and jazz.
